You will practise in realistic contexts such as presenting arguments, writing reports, participating in discussions, and interpreting authentic Australian texts and media. Small class sizes ensure individual attention and rapid progress.

Programs range from General English and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to IELTS preparation - each designed to move you to the next proficiency level efficiently.

Cost and duration of English courses in Australia

Fees & Timeline

Cost, Duration & Intake Dates

English language programs are structured differently from AQF-leveled vocational or university courses. Rather than a single fixed length, English courses are usually charged by the week or by study block, and your total duration depends on your starting proficiency and your target level - moving up a level commonly takes several weeks to a few months of full-time study. As a rough guide, providers often quote weekly tuition that adds up to a few thousand Australian dollars for a typical block, but the total cost varies considerably with how many weeks you need.

Because English programs run on a rolling basis, many providers offer very frequent intakes - often weekly or fortnightly start dates - which makes it easy to begin study soon after arrival or to align your course with a later vocational or university start. General English, English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and IELTS preparation streams each have their own pacing.

These figures are indicative and change over time. Active Study confirms the current weekly fees, available intake dates and the streams on offer with each provider, and helps you enrol in the English program that matches your current level and your next study step.

Permanent residency pathway after a English course in Australia

Study to PR

Your PR Pathway After This Course

An English course is not itself a skilled occupation and does not lead directly to a skilled visa or permanent residency. Instead, as the course entry notes, it is often the first step in a longer study and visa plan - building the language proficiency you need to enrol in a vocational or university qualification that does carry a migration pathway.

Strong English also underpins almost every later step, from meeting the English requirements attached to student and skilled visas to passing the skills assessments and registration standards required in many occupations. In that sense, your English program lays the groundwork that makes a future Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) and skilled visas such as the subclass 189, 190 or 491 achievable, depending on the qualification and occupation you eventually choose.

Any future migration outcome depends on the course you progress to, your points, assessments and the requirements current at the time, so nothing is guaranteed at the English stage. Active Study will map the full pathway from your English course to your target qualification and, with our MARA-registered agents, plan the migration steps beyond it.
