Practical workshops are a major component, giving you hands-on time with industry-standard tools and equipment. You will also study work health and safety, environmental practices, and workplace communication relevant to the Australian automotive trade.
Successful completion leads to a Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology - a nationally recognised qualification under the AQF.
Graduates work as panel beaters, spray painters, and automotive body technicians at smash repair shops, dealerships, and specialist vehicle restoration businesses.

The Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology is a nationally recognised AQF qualification, and like most Certificate III trade courses it typically runs over around 12 months of full-time study, with some providers spreading delivery across a longer period to fit in the spray-booth and panel-shop practical hours. Indicative tuition for international students generally falls in the AUD 8,000 to 18,000 range for the full qualification, though the exact figure varies by provider and location.
Most registered training organisations that deliver this course offer several intakes a year, commonly around February, April or May, July and October, so you usually do not have to wait long to begin. Because workshop and equipment access can cap class sizes, it is worth confirming start dates early.
These figures are indicative only and change over time. Active Study works with you to find the right provider for panel beating and refinishing, then confirms the exact current fees, intake dates and any material or PPE costs before you commit.
After completing your Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology, the usual journey is to gain Australian work experience, and where you are eligible, apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) to keep working in the trade.
