What You'll Study

Our Childcare courses are designed for international students aiming to excel in early childhood education. Active Study ensures a comprehensive learning experience to foster skills in nurturing young minds. Australia's childcare sector is growing rapidly, creating consistent demand for qualified educators.

Childcare and early childhood education courses develop your understanding of child development, play-based learning, programming and planning, behaviour guidance, family partnership, and safety and wellbeing. You will study relevant legislation, including the National Quality Framework and the Early Years Learning Framework.

Significant supervised placement hours at approved childcare services are a mandatory component, giving you genuine experience working with children aged 0-12 years. You will build practical skills in observation, documentation, and inclusive practice.

Courses lead to a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care - both essential qualifications for working legally in Australian childcare services.

Cost and duration of Childcare courses in Australia

Fees & Timeline

Cost, Duration & Intake Dates

Childcare qualifications for international students are offered at two levels. A Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (AQF Level 3) typically runs for around 6 to 12 months full-time, while a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (AQF Level 5) usually takes 1 to 2 years. As an indication only, vocational childcare courses commonly fall in the range of roughly AUD 8,000 to AUD 18,000 in total, with diploma programs generally sitting at the higher end. Exact tuition varies by provider, campus location and whether you study the certificate, the diploma, or a combined pathway.

Childcare is a popular field, so most registered providers schedule several intakes a year - commonly around February, April or May, July and October - which gives you flexibility to align your start date with your visa timeline and supervised placement requirements. Because mandatory placement hours form part of the qualification, your real duration can shift slightly depending on how placement is scheduled.

These figures are indicative and change over time. Active Study compares providers across our office network, confirms the current published fees, intake dates and placement arrangements, and helps you enrol in the qualification that best fits your career and migration goals.

Permanent residency pathway after a Childcare course in Australia

Study to PR

Your PR Pathway After This Course

Childcare is one of the stronger study-to-PR pathways available through vocational education because the course entry notes that Early Childhood Educators appear on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). After completing your qualification, eligible graduates can often apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) to gain Australian work experience, then work towards a skills assessment in the relevant occupation.

Because the occupation sits on the national MLTSSL, you may be eligible to be considered for skilled visas including the subclass 189 (independent), subclass 190 (state nominated) or subclass 491 (regional), subject to your points, your skills assessment and current requirements. Eligibility is never automatic - points thresholds, occupation lists and assessment rules change over time.

Active Study's MARA-registered migration agents will map your exact pathway from enrolment through to a skilled visa application, based on your circumstances, your chosen state or region, and the rules in force at the time. We do not promise guaranteed PR, but we will give you a realistic, current plan.
